What If Your Season of Brokenness Is Actually Preparing You?

Watch out! That pain is about to unleash your purpose.

Dear Friend,

Have you experienced or are you currently experiencing a broken season? Examples of such seasons include periods of loss, confusion, and uncertainty. These seasons may feel like interruptions, more like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Many times, people feel the pain they experience during such periods is pointless. If you feel the same way, I’m glad to tell you that your opinion is not correct, and there’s good news for you. What you are experiencing may be painful, but it carries the key to unlocking your future. Why?

God often uses seasons of brokenness to form us into who He wants us to be. These seasons of pain are the same seasons that play a major role in situating you in your purpose.

The Hidden Architecture of Purpose

For most people, the expectation is that purpose will come with clarity and show up within their comfort zone. Interestingly, the opposite is mostly the case. Purpose is usually birthed in disruption. How do I know?

Take a look at the stories of our Lord Jesus Christ, Joseph, Moses, David, and Daniel, to mention a few. Each one of these people experienced a season that led to the revelation of their purposes on earth.

If you have been struggling to find your purpose and have experienced adversity and seasons of brokenness, you are close to the end of your search. As long as you open up your heart, depend on God, and stay expectant, your purpose is about to be unleashed. Pain has a way of revealing purpose. It exposes:

  • What truly matters to you.

  • What you’re capable of enduring.

  • The burdens you carry for others.

  • The problems that deeply stir your heart.

  • What you were designed to fix.

While you may consider these feelings as mere emotions, they are often the clues that drive you towards why you are here. Many of the things you’ve survived carry insight into the people you are called to help. And once purpose becomes clear, the next step is a platform. Your platform is simply the structure through which your purpose is expressed.

It could look like:

  • A business.

  • A ministry.

  • A nonprofit.

  • A creative project.

  • A movement.

  • A community.

Action Points

  • Reflect on your story: Take time to revisit the seasons that shaped you and ask yourself what lessons you gained.

  • Identify the patterns: Look for recurring burdens, passions, and problems that consistently move you.

  • Ask God better questions: Instead of asking why you suffered what you went through, ask what God was building in you through the issues you experienced.

  • Consider the platform: What could you build from what you’ve learned?

  • Use your story: Someone else may need the exact story you’re afraid to tell.

Seasons of brokenness can feel heavy and painful. But often, they are building something far greater than you can see. Purpose is rarely born in comfort. The challenge is to remain open enough to discern what God is doing through the difficult season.

Remember that what God is building through you may one day become the answer someone else has been praying for.

With love,

Rotimi Kehinde.
